Week 3
I snapped this picture in Marist Hall this week. I know it's a bit dark, but I really liked the creepiness added by the shadows. I tried it with a higher ISO, and didn't quite like the effect.

Week 2: Capturing Light
Week 2: Warming up to Photoshop
I discovered in class this week that I really don't like Photoshop much. It seems like most of the people in our class already have experience with Photoshop, so I'm kind of intimidated to be one of the few total beginners. In this photo, taken in the Mary Garden during class, I added lens flair through the filters option, and then played with some dodging and burning. I really dislike how dark this photo is, and when I tried to adjust the lighting a bit, it begins to get grainy. I really didn't think the lighting was poor in the environment where I took the photo, but once I uploaded the images, it was very dark.

Playing with Shutter Speed

Assignment 1: Aperture and Shutter Speed
Slow/Fast shutter speeds
Low/High aperture
Apologies for the lack of compelling subject matter! Will make a better effort to get off campus (or out of dorm room) when semester slows down.
One of my main issues I am finding is when using the manual focus and adjusting aperture, I have a very hard time telling the difference through the viewfinder. I need to learn more about focusing and how to better estimate what will be in and what will be out of focus.

Cleveland Park
I took this photo in the Cleveland Park area this weekend. I spend the evening at a rooftop bar across the street and was drawn to the shadows being cast behind the neon sign. Unfortunately, I was unable to get to the edge of the roof to take a photo from that vantage point, so instead I snapped one at the end of the night from the street. I wish this photo was straighter and taken from a more interesting angle, and would prefer if that car in the foreground was not there.

An old Hobby
Experimenting with DoF/aperture.
I've been playing the bagpipes for roughly ten years now, but like all of my other great pleasures in life, they've been replaced by classes, studying, and interning. After having them out for a reunion tonight, I decided to take a few shots of the details on the pipes. I have always really loved the look of the shiny silver combined with the white ivory and dark combed wood and hoped to capture those details in the photos.
